Elizabeth Sanson: Sustainable Gardening

Bernard Pages and Donnie Brown would like to present their wonderful Sustainable Gardening instructor, Elizabeth Sansom.

Elizabeth has lived in Palm Beach County her entire life.  She teaches area residents how to grow their own food thereby providing themselves with a sustainable source of groceries. She will demonstrate how to work smarter, not harder. She conveys “tricks of the trade“

The temperatures are finally starting to drop a bit, making it a lot more comfortable to get out there and get our gardens prepped and planted. Activities are filing our calendars, the Green Markets are open, and the Mounts is scheduling plants sales and other wonderful activities (forest bathing, anyone?) I haven‘t gotten to the Green Market yet, but hopefully will this month.

Hello, all,

Welcome back to our society! We all hope you had a simply marvelous summer, and that those who traveled all arrived home safely. I had two out-of-town weddings to attend this year, and while it was lovely seeing family and getting out of Florida for a change, I am glad to be back home. 

It was a very very hot summer with lots of thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening (my favorite time to work outside), and it was challenging to get much yard work done. So my yard is still overgrown from summer, and I am not quite ready for fall planting season. Here's hoping that the rest of you are in better shape.

This month we are happy to introduce John W. Roberts, Ph.D., Extension Agent I of the Palm Beach County Agricultural Extension of UF/IFAS.

John Roberts is the Commercial Horticulture Extension Agent for Palm Beach County. He grew up in Montverde, Florida (i.e., ~30 miles west of Orlando) where his brother is still active in the nursery trade. He has a BS in environmental science from the University of the South (TN), an MS
