Society News November 2023

to add this thank-you to Dennis Hessing:

"Depending on the weather, rain or shine, we are always thankful for the protection of the tent. Most of all, we are thankful to our friend, Dennis Hessing, who delivers the tent and puts it together for us before the plant sale and also picks it up when all is said and done. Dennis doesn't just live around the corner, he drives up from Deerfield Beach on Thursday before the sale and again on Sunday to pick it up and take it home to store for us. He has done this for many, many years and we are so thankful that the Evening Herb Society has such a good friend." Indeed, I could not imagine what we would do without Dennis!

I would also like to hear a big round of applause for our member Roland Gaudet. Roland not only provides us with lovely healthy herbs for our raffle table each month, but when one of our vendors fell through on this last sale, Roland stepped up and saved the sale. He got us a supply from Rainmaker in Stuart and filled in with plants from his own stock so that we had a lovely selection to offer. He even brought more on Sunday to fill in the blanks on our depleted tables. We could not have done it without him.

And a big thanks to Marci Green, who chaired this very successful sale. We made over $1100 dollars this sale, which goes to pay for all the good things that make our Society what it is.

Ingrid Menz cannot provide a report on the Garden of Well-Being this week, due to the weather we have had these past few days. but she did tell me last week that she planted the plants that the Society donated (nasturtium, rosemary, sage, apple mint and rue) and that they were all looking healthy. They are small plants at this point, and the Garden has good drainage, so I am sure they will weather the storm.

Notes about the Holiday Dinner

Do not forget to mark your calendars for our holiday dinner on December 12. The society will provide turkey, ham, and beverages. Make sure you sign the sheet as it goes around telling us how many in your party (yes, you can bring the kids) (yes, you can bring a date) (no, you can't bring the dog) and most importantly what side dish you are bringing to make our dinner complete. Please look over the list before you add your dish to try to avoid duplicates. Bingo was such a big hit last year that we're going to do it again, and maybe even more special. Be there to find out what's new.

Don't forget that this month's tasting table theme is 'Leftovers', so be sure to make enough to share when you are cooking this Thanksgiving.

See you at the meeting  November 28,

Your friendly neighborhood webmaster,

Mary
