January 2023

that contained holiday ornaments and herb seed packets. I am hoping that we will get reports back from the winners to say that all of the seeds successfully germinated. The bingo set was provided and run by our long-time member KC Foster, and everyone there said that it was great fun and they definitely want to do it again next year. So a new EHS tradition has started!

Now that we are once again meeting in person, Bernard has asked that we firm up our current membership list

so that upcoming activities can better be planned. We also need to have current contact information in case of things like last minute schedule changes or hurricane cancellations. So if you have not paid your membership (still only $20/year) in the last year, please do so at the January meeting. If you can‘t make the January meeting, email Mary (mailto: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) for more infomation.

This month we will host Dr. Debra Marcelle-Coney. She was originally scheduled to speak at the September 2022 meeting which had to be cancelled due to Hurricane Ian. We are happy that she was understanding about the cancellation and was willing to reschedule, and we are looking forward to seeing her.

Tom Hewitt, a long-time member and published plant author and photographer, tells me that he has enrolled in one of the Mounts Watercolor at the Garden courses, and is learning a great deal. For those of you who enjoy yoga, the Mounts has introduced a special Sunday morning yoga ceremony in the Herb Garden of Well-being.

Keep in mind that there will be a Winter Plant-a-Palooza sale at the Mounts on February 11 - 12. The Evening Herb Society does not host a booth at the winter sale, but if you need some herb plants the Mounts Nursery may be able to help you out.

Unfortunately there have been some construction delays with the new Mounts Garden Welcome Center. It is now projected to open in late February. I have been assured that it will be beautiful and well worth the wait.

I don‘t know how many of you are aware of the Seed Savers Exchange. This is an organization that collects and preserves rare, heirloom, open-pollinated and organic garden seeds of all kinds, and distribute them through their catalog and website. I have ordered seeds from them for the last couple of years, and have had good luck with them. I can especially recommend the thyme and the Isle of Naxos basil. The website is here (https://www.seedsavers.org/).

We are looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting,

Mary
