May 2024

Greetings, all,

Most of us are getting ready to transition from winter gardening to summer gardening, which of course is entirely different from the way they do it up north. That's why it was so good that our president Bernard Pages was able to arrange for Palmer Crippen to address our group this month. Palmer is the horticulturist at Mounts Botanical Garden who is responsible for the Vegetable Garden and the Cottage Garden, and will be talking to us about Gardening in Small Spaces. He is also the man to ask for summer gardening tips.

One big topic at the last Board Meeting was the workshop that Bernard is planning for July 30. This will be a planter for herbs and flowers that can be assembled and taken home to enjoy. You can assemble one, two or three layers, and each layer will include the planter, the soil and the plants. Each layer will cost the member $12.50. If you want to participate in this workshop, you must sign up and prepay at either the

April 2024

Greetings, all ,
There was lots of talk at the Board meeting this month about getting ready for this year‘s Spring Plant Sale at the Mounts Botanical Garden. Thanks in advance to those of you who volunteered to help with our herb booth. Remember, members of the Mounts and those of you who are volunteering will get into the sale free. But even for those who have to pay the cover charge, it can be worth it. After all, there are many vendors who come from out of the area, places like Dade County, Naples, Stuart and Orlando. Seeing them at this local sale can save you the gas money you would have to spend to get to their nurseries. Always a good deal.
Don‘t forget to bring some cash or a check to pay for whatever you want from

2024 Annual Kitchen & Garden Auction

We all have treats, goodies and special somethings that we make for ourselves, for our friends, or for gifts. Maybe it‘s home-baked bread, or maybe it‘s a special cake, or even half a dozen cupcakes. Or maybe it‘s not something baked, maybe it‘s a jar of soup, or jelly, or chutney, or salsa. Maybe it‘s not even edible, but a lovely skin cream, or home-made soap, or a bath bomb, or a sugar or salt scrub. Or maybe it is something else entirely but equally lovely.

You also might have a lovely plant, garden statue (or gnome) or maybe an extra hand tool or two that you think may like a new home.

Whatever you put together at home, we would like you to bring one (or more than one) to donate to our fund-raising Auction this March. If your item comes in a container, please make sure you do not need the container returned. You can set a minimum price or say something special about your item by taping a note on the item. If there is a story behind the item, please attach it. That makes it even more special. This helps the auctioneers drum up interest

TIME TABLE:

  • 5:00pm Doors open (come to help set up)
  • 6:00 p.m. Donations are set out on tables. Feel free to look around
